A Culture Of Encouragement: The Building Blocks for Productivity

A collaborative work culture that strives to move away from the high-pressure work dynamic and into a more serene team building atmosphere is seeing productivity soar and employee turnover wane! As a boss/leader, be approachable and open to suggestions. But also be aware that rolling up your sleeves and participating in your growth will go far in keeping your team motivated. This is how a culture of productivity is best built upon for any success.

Disengagement of the workforce, high voluntary turnover and lack of loyalty are all costly mistakes. Creating a positive healthy culture of support for your employees above the bottomline will yield much higher productivity, less turnover and more willingness to go beyond what is asked. As a leader there are some things you can do:

  • Encourage social connections
  • Show empathy
  • Participate
  • Encourage open communication

The American Psychological Association estimates that more than $500 billion is siphoned off from the U.S. economy because of workplace stress, and 550 million workdays are lost each year due to stress on the job. Sixty percent to 80% of workplace accidents are attributed to stress, and it’s estimated that more than 80% of doctor visits are due to stress. Workplace stress has been linked to health problems ranging from metabolic syndrome to cardiovascular disease and mortality.

Taking actionable steps when problems come to light will create and build trust in a team driven work climate. If everyone feels like they are on the same page, working for the same goals productivity will follow. No one department should be overwhelmed to the point of feeling alienated from the team. Working in a collaborative open environment designed for communication can do a lot to foster this type of communication.

Modular systems and benching systems were designed with communication in mind. Creating an organized workspace that keeps things at your fingertips and offers full collaboration will open dialog and a free-flowing exchange of ideas.

Hiring the right team for this type of work environment is key. Hire for attitude, finding qualified people that are excited about your goals will get you there quicker. Set actionable goals…don’t just have meetings and discuss big ideas and leave them behind in the conference room. Set deadlines so your team can make diligent progress with measurable progress.
